Dr. Estela Apolinar, Cardiologist for Gilbert Hospital and Premier Cardiology, discusses Coronary Artery Disease
I wanted to express my appreciation for the free TOPS physicals that you provide annually in the Gilbert, AZ area. My two sons, who attend Chandler Preparatory Academy, have benefitted from this program the last two years. It is a great relief to me to know that they have been thoroughly screened prior to their participation in football. I’m a single mom and you have certainly eased my financial burden in providing this benefit each year.
Your staff was entirely professional and friendly and the process was well organized and seamless. Thank you again for this great gift!

The wait is almost over! On Saturday, February 18th Florence Hospital at Anthem hosted an open house and it was successful in every way imaginable! Attendance was last counted at 2,000+ and the supporters just kept coming! Interested community members began arriving almost two hours early to fill out applications, ask for tours, see the helipad and inquire as to the ability to pre-register for services they anticipate needing in the future. As the “guests” walked thru the doors they were personally greeted by Dr. Tim Johns, Founder and Vice President of Medical Affairs, with a grin on his face that could be seen for miles! Dr. Johns said, “I didn’t think we would get many people on a Saturday afternoon, but the community proved me wrong as they kept lining up to see the hospital!” As they walked down the sidewalk they were offered free samples of cake (donated by a local baker), cupcakes (made by Gabby from Cup Your Cake) and homemade chocolate chip cookies personally baked by Dr. Johns and his daughter Katelyn. The hospital had several staff members, including CEO Mr. David Wanger, working this day to answer questions, lead tours, hand out gifts and help in any way possible. On site for the open house were Air Methods (air ambulance service), San Tan and Rural Metro Fire Departments, Department of Corrections, Pinal County Sherriff, Town dignitaries and many, many more!
The hospital anticipates opening the beginning of March and expects to see more than 25,000 patients in its first year of operations. The hospital will initially open with services that include Emergency, Inpatient/ICU, Correctional unit, OR/PACU, MRI, CT, X-ray, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and a medical staff roster of more than 105 physicians representing more than sixteen specialties.
Florence Hospital at Anthem is a privately owned hospital and sister facility to Gilbert Hospital, both of which are anticipated to be Visionary Health Hospitals. Wanger said, “The Town of Florence wanted a new hospital for the past twelve years and because we keep our promises, they are now getting one.” To date, the hospital has hired approximately 300 new employees and the excitement is amazing. The care will far surpass everyone’s expectations as they also embrace the “Door to Doc in 31 Minutes” TM service moniker.

Gilbert Hospital hosted the 5th Annual TOPS (Team of Physicians for Students) event on April 28, 2012 at Williams Field High School, part of the Higley Unified School District.
During this event (run exclusively through volunteers), 1,460 student athletes were provided free, extensive physicals that included, in addition to an overall exam, an EKG and a Cardiac Ultrasound (if warranted). More than 225 volunteers made the event possible.
A total of 10 students weren’t cleared.
East Valley high schools and schools from as far away as Miami and Maricopa bused kids in for the event.
These screenings fulfill the Arizona Interscholastic Association physical examination requirement for all high school student athletes.
Among the organizations contributing to the event were: Higley Unified School District; Premier Cardiovascular Consultants; Phoenix Children’s Hospital East Valley Specialty Clinic; AirMethods; Alpha Graphics; Midwestern University; Grand Canyon University; and Arizona State University.
2013 TOPS date has yet to be determined
